A part of one of my studies was about safety. Human safety, safety for building and more. From that moment I check some situations. Just standard, can’t do anything about it. In combination with my travel trip I made a safety list for backpackers. Safety first so I think it is good to share with you as a backpacker.
When you travel and need to call someone you’ve serveral options. You can call with your normal phone, buy a simcard, use facetime or skype. (and a lot more)
Do you want cheap phone calls on your traveltrip? To all the numbers in the world? Add some money to your skype account. When you have some money on your account you can make cheap phone calls all over the world with your own number! (when you have wifi)
Sounds strange right? There is nothing wrong with me and my little friend down there but in my backpack I carry 6 absorbent diapers. Why? A friend of my gave me the tip just for my depart. So I bought 6 diapers at the HEMA shop. (7.50 euro)
I’m on the road for 8 weeks now and the most of my hostels I booked by hostelworld. In my opinion they are the cheapest. And have the “backpacker” “hostel” world name. But I met a couple of people who book at booking.com and get better deals. So I’ve compared those two last weeks.
I did some nice things in China and Bangkok so far. But the touristic stuff costs a lot of money! Espacially the nature parks in China. But when you buy one beer on a Rooftopbar in Bangkok you can also sleep a night for that money 😉 Yesterday I had my cheapest day this journey.
First of all I’m realy happy with my Couchsurf place. (on Khoa San rd you can also sleep for 250 baht) It is a nice appartment good couch and wifi as well. I uploaded all my photo’s and video’s into the cloud. You never know when you loose your phone. (Yes I think that is going to happen this journey 😀 ) But the owner of the appartment has a cleaninglady and she will arrive at 8.00 am.
So I was up early and had a whole day in front of me! Plan was walk the city see Khao San Road, Phat Phong street at daylight and take a boat back. And walk a little trough the neighborhoods. See the real locals by feet.

I did a few larger travel trips now and when you’ve no internet connection and still try something to find can be hard. Specialy when you’re alone or tired from a long day or night traveling. Offline map Maps.me is my solution for this problem. You can download the map from the country on your phone. The most of the streets and big attractions are on it. So when I’m in a place with wifi is set a exact point on my map so I know where I’ve to go that day. The map will load offline and your location is easy to find.
