Everywhere in Chiang Mai you see Orange Bikes but How to use orange bike in Chiang Mai?
I’m from Amsterdam and love to cycle, did a couple of cycling trips through Europe and miss a bike when I don’t have one. My solution in Chiang Mai are the Orange shared bikes! 🙂
Since I come here more often I almost always use an Orange MoBike, Red Truck or Grab. As the MoBike is very easy to use and you can leave it where you arrive I often take the MoBike to get somewhere and a Grab to get back. Also I love cycling around in the neighbourhoods and discover small alleys and new restaurants, as Chiang Mai is super flat the orange bicycles are perfect for that. Let me explain how they work and how you can use the orange bicycles in Chiang Mai.
Mobike price pay as you go:
MoBike will cost 10 baht per 30 minutes with a 199baht deposit. (5.30 euro or 6.05 dollar)
Price MoBike Pass per 30 days: *
150 baht (4 euro or 4.57 dollar) – they say limited offer otherwise 379baht (10.13 euro or 11.54 dollar)
Price MoBike Pass per 90 days: *
250 baht (6.70 euro or 7.60 dollar) – they say limited offer otherwise 899baht (24 euro or 27.40 dollar)
* With the pass you can use the bike free for 120 minutes per trip, you can do unlimited trips per day.
PRO TIP: Make sure you lock you bike properly and end your session, otherwise you get charged the full period after the two hours you can use the bike per session.
When you ride your orange bicycle the app will gather some stats of you trip and trips together. For example:
1) The First Type
2) My Absolute Favourite Orange Mobike so far!
3) I spotted once another Orange MoBike in Chiang Mai but couldn’t test that one yet! (3 gears!)
Step 1:
Downloading the App and Signing Up
Download the Mobike App in the App Store or on Google Play and create an account using your mobile number. Receive and enter the verification code and make your one off (fully refundable) deposit.
Step 2:
Locating a Bike Near You
Open the Mobike app and check the map for the closest Mobike icon. You can reserve any Mobike for up to 15 minutes by simply selecting the bike and pressing “reserve.”
Step 3:
Unlocking the Mobike
Open your app and press the “unlock” button at the bottom of the home screen. Scan the QR code displayed between the handlebars and the rear end of the bike.
Once successfully scanned, the lock will automatically unlock and you may begin your journey!
Step 4:
Parking and Locking Mobikes
Once you’ve arrived at your destination, safely park your Mobike at any public bicycle parking location and manually lock the bike by closing the lever on the smart lock.
Once locked, the app will automatically end your journey.
PRO TIP AGAIN: Make sure you lock you bike properly and end your session, otherwise you get charged the full period after the two hours you can use the bike per session. The bleep can seem your bike ended the trip always check your app 🙂
