How to visit the Preikestolen in Norway

One of the highlights of out tour through Scaninavia was the Preikestolen. A huge rock hanging over a Fjord. When you look over the edge you can look 600 meter down! Other names for the Preikestolen are Preacher’s Pulpit or Pulpit Rock.

How to get to the Preikestolen in Norway

You can go by car, in the surrounding area you’ll find signs to the Preikestolen. My advice is to go early. When we got back there was a huge line in front of the parking! We arrived at 8.15 to park the car. You can do it on the hill. After that you have to walk two hours to reach the peak. On the way you’ll find al lot of stair steps and some flat parts. The whole hike of 3.8km you can follow the signs. I don’t think the hike is very difficult because the steps are well placed. In the picture below you can see the route to the top of the hike. When you are on top you can go further up to have an overview with the plateau below.

Little list what you can bring. Some energy foods and drinks. Good clothes what depends on the weather. On top the wind can be cool. Maybe lunch to sit and relax before you make your way down.

Costs parking Preikestolen

The parking just before the start of the hike will cost 11,50 euro a day.

Camping Preikestolen

At the bottom of the hill (few km before the parking of the Preikestolen) is the Preikestolen camping. You can go there just on arrival and hope you get a spot. (thats what we did) or you can make a reservation for a camping spot. Click here for the website of the Preikestolen Camping. From the camping you can also take the bus to the Preikestolen.
