Kiteboard lessons Mui Ne

I had a great time in Mui ne, where I spend 5 days with 4 lessons of kiteboarding. I had my kiteboard lessons at the VKS (Vietnam Kiteboarding school).  In between I did some quad riding in the sand dunes amazing experience!

Kiteboard lessons in Muine at VKS

The first lesson was on the beach, the theory about kiting and steering the kite. And ofcourse the safety when you’re using the kite. When you see the kite the first time and steer it, WOW! That power, I was a little bit afraid that I would fly away. But my instructor Ramon from VKS learned me how to get power on the kite and how to loose power on the kite. And this was just a small kite. Knowing the technique behind the steering of the kite made me feel more secure and in control.

Second day of kiteboarding lessons VKS in Muine Beach

First we practiced with the big kite on the beach. Yes! What a awesome feeling is that! In the beginning in the sitting position on the beach, later we stand up and practice with the different kite positions. After that we went in the water for the first time with a real kite! I was behind the kiteboard instructor. He dragged us trough the water with the kite.
They teach you how to get your kiteboard back when you lose it. Using the body drag technique that we practiced on the beach. It is fun to bring the theory in to practice on the water. It is easy when your kiteboard is down-wind (in front of you) But when your kiteboard is behind you in up-wind situation you’ve to use the body drag technique to get your kiteboard back. After the normal body drag we practiced the body drag with the kiteboard. Lean on the kiteboard and drag yourself in to the open water to practice the kite positions.
What to do when your kite falls into the water? The instructors of the kiteboarding school will show you what to do. The kite can be in different positions but in the kiteboard lesson you’ll learn how to bring the kite back up. Sometimes it’s hard but in the most times it is doable with one finger.
Till now everything was with low power on the kite. Now we went in the water without kiteboard and practiced the kite positions to get more power on the kite. I flew 5 meters because I made a mistake. But it was so much fun! After a couple of times I had the right feeling!

Third day kiteboard lessons VKS in Muine Beach

On the third day we spend the first hour to practiced what I learned in the last days. But this time all alone! Me Myself an I on the water doing the basics. I made a couple of little mistakes but made progress! We picked up the kiteboard and Ramon taught me on the beach how to stand up and the do’s and don’ts when you’re standing on the board.
After this it was finally the moment to try to ride the board on the water! First time I flew away and lost my board. So back to the beach, find the board and try again! After a few times I rode 5 meters on my plank! What an amazing feeling.
I want to do it more! I think kiteboarding is addicted to you.
