In one week #TourduEurope: tailwind brought me from the Netherlands to Copenhagen

On day one I had company of my friend Rick. He cycled the first few hours with me till Apeldoorn. He wanted to try my bike so I gave him my bike just before Apeldoorn. There is a nice part uphill 😉

The rest of the day till Bad Bentheim I cycled in a normal pace. The road was not hilly so I made it in little bit more that 6 hours. In total I cycled 140km to my hostel. The evening before I slept only 4 hours so when I arrived I went to bed, to the supermarket and to bed again for a reload of sleep!

Day two #TourduEurope

The hostel provided a big breakfast so I ate a lot I know that is good when you cycle that many hours. Try to eat good and much as you can. This day I made it to Bremen. With a nice tailwind I cycled 175km. I got in love with my cycling navigation again 😀

Day three #TourduEurope

In the hostel in Bremen I met George. A 69 year old Australian guy. He bought a rental bike in Amsterdam and was cycling in The Netherlands and Germany looking for friend he made in 1979. His reach on the bike was still 85km! Unfurtunatly his next hostel was 95km away so I decided to help him. I rode the hole way in front of him to his hostel. Before I cycled to my hostel we drunk a coffee and ate a german cake to get some extra energie. At Hamburg two friends from TourduGermany in 2014 surprised me! They came to my hostel, picked me up and took me out for a diner! 🙂

Day four #TourduEurope

This day started with some rain but I couldn’t complain. The rest of the week I had awesome weather. Lot of tailwind and most of the time sun and clouds. I made it on day to Kiel (92km) and arrived early in the afternoon. Did a powernap, bought some food and prepared myself for two big stages.

Day five #TourduEurope

This hostel had breakfast as well that started at 7 in the morning. So I ate a lot and was on my bike at 8.00am. After 147 km I reached Haderslev in Denmark! Here I used my tent dor the first time. In the night it started raining and I was a little bit worried. But I had a dry night!

Day six #TourduEurope

It couldn’t get out of my bed it was so nice. So I decided to stay another hour. After that my tent was dry and I was ready to go. After my stop at the supermarket for the normal breakfast I cycled 7 hours to Nyborg where I camped again!

Day seven Copenhagen!

Unfurtunatly cyclist are now aloud on the longest bridge in Europe between Nyborg and Korsor. So I had to take the train. To save some time and avoid the bad weather I took the second stop in Slagelse. From here it was 108km to my hostel in Copenhagen! I checked in dropped my bags, saw the amazing stage of the Giro with the dutch Steven Kruijswijk and did a quick city tour by bike to the little mermaid and back!

For now I stay here 3 nights to rest and see Copenhagen. Fill up the tank for my way to Stockholm!

Totals for the first week

Kilometer cycled: 921km
Hours on the bicycle: 42.35 hours/min
Waterbotles: 35
