The Pakse Motorbikeloop you can do it in two or three days. I advise you to do the loop clockwise the most beautiful views and waterfalls will be in the second part. So you get more excited instead of getting less excited. I’ve done the loop in 2014 and in 2023. Things have changed. The homestay at the waterfall (Tad Jarou Halang also named – Tad Tayicseua) has been closed, unfortunately. But new places (like Fendee Island) opened up and this motorbike loop is still an awesome thing to do!
When you want to rent a motorbike for the Pakse motorbike loop you can go to Wang Wang Motorbike rental Pakse. You’ve done the Motorbike loop in Thakhek already, you probably know Wang Wang. They opened also a motorbike rental shop in Pakse! They will provide you with a detailed map about the loop.
On the first way, you will find Mr Vieng coffee you, will see the sign on the left side of the road. You can also stay there for a homestay. There are 6 places available on the moment. And he will upgrade to 10 next year. When you order coffee it will be fresh from their own coffee plantage. Mr. Vieng roasts his coffee in the wok and brews you the coffee. It is a nice first stop on the loop.
I definitely liked the Captain Hook village and farm tour but for us 4 hours is way too much, if the group agrees you also can ask if he can be a little bit faster/ shorter in words 🙂 Besides the time this tour was interesting with the cultural differences etc. Not to forget Captain Hook and his wife are also running a homestay.
Embarking on the Pakse motorbike loop in Laos is like diving into a world where nature’s artistry is on full display, especially when it comes to the mesmerizing waterfalls. This journey is a symphony of cascading waters and lush greenery, a true paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Here’s a snapshot of the waterfall wonders you’ll encounter:
Each of these waterfalls adds its own unique brushstroke to the canvas of the Pakse loop, making it a journey that’s as varied as it is beautiful. From the adrenaline-pumping heights of Tad Fane to the serene flows of Tad Lo, this route is a celebration of nature’s diversity and beauty, a must-visit for anyone traveling to Laos.
Looking for good accommodation on the loop can be hard. I recommend Vilaychay Guest House, the guesthouse is runned by a family with approximately 10 rooms. The great thing is that you can safely park your motorbike inside!
One of my other favorites was Fendee island. It is an island where you can sleep in a little triangle hut or even a treehouse. They have a restaurant that serves delicious food and cold drinks.
The Bolaven Plateau in southern Laos is a region synonymous with stunning natural beauty and a thriving coffee culture. Elevated between 1,000 to 1,350 meters, the plateau’s cooler climate and fertile volcanic soil create the perfect conditions for growing high-quality coffee. Laotian coffee, particularly from the Bolaven Plateau, is celebrated for its rich and diverse flavors, ranging from bold and earthy to smooth and aromatic.
For those exploring the area, there are several exceptional coffee stops to experience:
Each of these coffee stops offers a unique glimpse into the rich coffee culture of the Bolaven Plateau, making them essential visits for anyone traveling through this captivating region of Laos.
On the way back to Pakse you can buy manchettes, You can buy a machete for 30.000 kip ($4) or two for 50.000 kip ($6) They make the manchettes over there, so you can see the whole process.
