Thai Massage and Thai Food in Amersfoort: Our Thai Day Out

Thai fish cakes with sweet chilli sauce and green papaya salad (som tam) at The Street Food Bar, Amersfoort

In short: for a taste of Thailand in Amersfoort, we booked a 90-minute duo oil massage at Amersfoort Thai Massage (EUR 165 for the two of us) and had lunch at The Street Food Bar on the Arnhemsestraat, where Thai dishes cost from EUR 7.50 (snacks) to EUR 19.95 (a mix of three rice dishes) and you order at the bar. The massage salon is closed on Sundays and the restaurant on Mondays, so plan your Thai day from Tuesday to Saturday.

We went on 20 October 2026. Opening hours and prices below are from the sign and the menu we photographed that day; check before you go.

Why Amersfoort? Because you can get a Thai massage and delicious Thai street food there.

You can’t miss the salon: a Thai flag hangs above the door and the window carries the name in gold letters. Inside, a gilded statue in a red Thai scarf stands next to the wooden reception desk with a carved “Thai-Massage Welcome” sign.

We booked a duo oil massage of 90 minutes, so we were treated at the same time in the same room. We paid EUR 165 for the two of us, EUR 82.50 per person.

The oil massage was good.

How does it compare to a Thai massage in Thailand?

In Chiang Mai I have had many massages, from foot massages on the street to my favourite massage combination. At the Women’s Prison Massage Centre in Chiang Mai the price list said 250 baht for a one-hour traditional Thai massage. Our massage in Amersfoort was a 90-minute oil massage, so it is not a like-for-like comparison: you pay Dutch prices, but you skip the long-haul flight.

Lunch at The Street Food Bar: what we ordered

After the massage we went for lunch at The Street Food Bar. You order at the bar, and there is a separate card with street-food dishes such as pad kaprao (stir-fried basil with a fried egg) and Panaeng curry. These are the dishes we shared, and they are our favourites:

Dish What it is (from the menu) Price
Thai fish cakes Spicy fish cakes, 3 pieces EUR 7.50
Papaya salad (som tam) Green papaya salad; also with prawns EUR 10.25 (EUR 13.50 with prawns)
Pad see ew (we had it with chicken) Rice noodles with broccoli, carrot, pointed cabbage and egg; gluten-free EUR 12.50 vegetarian, EUR 12.95 with chicken, beef, pork or prawns
Panaeng (Penang) curry From the street-food card; ours came with chicken, carrot and a bowl of rice. On the receipt it is the “Thai special” EUR 15.95
Mango sticky rice Dessert: sweet sticky rice with mango EUR 7.90

Prices from the menu and our receipt, 20 October 2026. With two soft drinks (EUR 5.70) our lunch for two came to EUR 60.25. Rice dishes come at EUR 11.95; a mix of two costs EUR 16.95 and a mix of three EUR 19.95.

Why these are our favourites? Every one of these dishes brings back good memories of Thailand.

We finished with mango sticky rice. We were too busy eating it to take a photo.

How spicy is the food?

The menu has its own spice chart, from one star (a little spicy) to five stars (double Thai spicy). Three stars is “medium, Dutch spicy” and four stars is “Thai spicy”. The red curry is three stars, the green curry two, and the spicy pork garlic five. According to the menu, not every dish is spicy, and you choose how spicy you want it: we asked for spicy.

Tips for your Thai day in Amersfoort

  • Pick a day from Tuesday to Saturday. The massage salon is closed on Sunday and the restaurant on Monday.
  • Massage first, then eat. The salon opens at 09:30 (Saturday 10:00) and the restaurant at 12:00, so a morning massage and lunch afterwards fits well.
  • Order at the bar. There is no table service for ordering.
  • Allergies: the menu asks you to tell the staff, and all curry dishes on the menu are gluten-free.
  • Take away or catering is also possible, according to the menu.
  • Book the massage online, about a week ahead. That is what we did for our duo massage; you pay at the salon.
