Cheap backpacker meals Australia

When you are living on a budget in Australia cheap meals are a good way to save some money. The meat and vegetables are not cheap but you can save to pick the right ones. The cheap stores are Aldi and Coles. For now Aldi is only available at the east coast. Cheap plastic plates, cups and cutlery you can get by Ikea for 6.00 Australian dollar in total for six of each!

Cheap backpacker meals in Australia

When you like pasta, rice and noodles you can have very cheap meals! I like to combine the vegetables, pasta or rice and some canned tuna! You can make a lunch for 0.25 Australian dollar. A four person meal with pasta, tuna, corn and sauce for only 4.40 Australian dollar. (2.95 euro or 3.40 US dollar)

Bread multigrain (700 gram, 20 slices) 2.00
Peanut butter (500 gram) 4.00
Hazelnut pasta (400 gram) 2.80
Cream cheese (245 gram) 3.39

Yoghurt and Oats (1 dollar a meal)
1 kg of yoghurt (4.20)
1 kg of oats (1.30)

Noodles (5 pack) 0.99 cents
Soup 1.49 (1 liter soup)

Pancakes
Milk (liter) 0.90
Flower (1kg) 0.80
Sugar (1kg) 1.20
Eggs (12) 2.80

For 72 pancakes you need 12 (2.80) eggs and 6 liter milk (10.80)
With three pancakes you have a nice meal. Total costs of that meal 0.50 AUS Dollar.

Suggestions: bake it with banana, mushrooms, union, bacon, capsicum, appels and cinnamon whatever you want!

When you are looking for cheap fruit in Australia check the banana’s, apples and grapes. The grapes are cheap when they are in sale. With fruit the stores offers always the cheaper and more expensive variant so check always which you pick.

    I know this is only good for people in Sydney and Melbourne. Lentils As Anything is a buffet where you can pay as much or as little as you want. It’s run by volunteers. There is a few places around Melbourne; Footscray, St Kilda, Abbotsford, Preston and one place in Sydney. Enjoy
