Bus Mandalay to Bagan

Bus Bagan Mandalay

I arranged my busticket from Mandalay to Bagan at the reception of my hotel in Mandalay. It was 9000 MMK ($9) for a aircon bus. They pick you up at the hotel 30 minutes before your bus depart. In my case at 9.30. And we drove away in the normal bus at 10. We arrived at 15.00 at our hotel in Bagan. (5 hours drive)

Nyaug U and Old Bagan

The lonely planets says that Nyaug U is more like a backpacker place and Old Bagan is a place with more comfort an better hotels. I stayed in Nyaug U and that was good. Rent a E-bike in Bagan to see the sunrise (5.30) and sunset (17.15). Every hotel provides E-bikes and otherwise the shop around the corner will do.

Mandalay or Yangon? Which is much better? I’m planning a trip to Cambodia then after I will go to Myanmar via Bangkok.

I liked the cycling in Mandalay, the biggest Pagoda is in Yangon. Both are beautiful! Sorry Mel, can’t make this decision for you.

Hi Tarun, that is all possible. Best thing to do is ask your hotel/hostel/guesthouse or a local travel agency in Mandalay and Bagan. Make sure you book your bus on the moment you want to go. Don’t wait until the day before to have the best chances 🙂

Enjoy! Those three cities are amazing 😀

    Hi Paul,

Can you recommend the best way for me to purchase a bus ticket from Mandalay to Bagan, either online or through an agent? I’m flying into Mandalay from Bangkok and would like to board a same day bus to Bagan. I won’t be checking into a hotel so I won’t be able to request assistance from a hotel reception.

    Thanks in advance!

    Josine

      Hi Josine,

The people in Myanmar are really helpful. When you contact an agent I’m pretty sure you can arrange your bus ticket ticket between Mandalay to Bagan by phone or online 🙂
Have a great time, Myanmar is awesome!
