When you are in Yangon Myanmar a nice thing to do is the Circular train around Yangon. This will take three hours and costs 1000 MMK ($1) You will see the city from another perspective and outside the city you will see the country side near Yangon.
Last night I had a once in a lifetime experience. I was the only foreigner on a mountaintop and slept in a monastery.
When you stay in Hpa-an you can do a tuktuk tour of one day to caver and temples near Hpa-an. I did this tour with a group of 7 people out of the Soe Brothers Guesthouse in Hpa-an. Some Brothers provides this tour with their own driver.
Bat cave. An absolute must-see, the bat cave is a small cave that cannot be entered but you can go there for sunset when, literally, hundreds of thousands of bats fly out. They are said to be flying all the way to Mawlalmyine to feed and come back every morning. The cave is part of a complex of a few pagodas, one on top of the rock, accessible by a steep ladder, with amazing views over the river and the bridge. There is an old couple who live there with some kids. Consider making a small donation for them to take care of the place.
Today I visited the Golden Rock / Kyaiktiyo Pagoda near Kyaikto and Kyaiktiyo. It is a touristie place but with nice weather definitely a must to visit.
I took the bus from Bagan to Kalaw with one main goal. Do the three day trekking from Kalaw to Inle lake. The trekking will go over the mountains and you will walk 62 km in total with the highest point on 1700 meter. You can also do the two day trekking. On the first day you’ll start at the same point the three day trekking starts the second day.
Today I took the big aircon bus from Bagan to Kalaw. The same bus will go from Bagan to Inle lake as well. The ride took 8 hours and was nice. I looked out of the window the whole trip. On some intersections you could make easy 20 pictures of things you saw. Kids playing, old trucks, people selling stuff nice portraits of old people. But I was in the bus 🙂
